Swedish Censorship

Where I come from there is censorship. In Sweden there ain't all that much.

Actually, you can see anything on T.V at any time of day, and there are swearwords aplenty. Swedes seem particularly fond of swearing in English. I even heard the word "c***" during the afternoon on the radio. Shocking, wot!

DJs on Swedish radio can say ANYTHING - and they rightfully revel in their freedom to do so. I don't think that fiasco with Russell Brand could possibly have happened in Sweden (and let's face it, it was a trumped-up load of old bollocks anyway).

But what are the results? Well, funnily enough it hasn't caused widespread rioting and chaos. The fabric of society has remained intact. In fact, the Swedes are a laid-back, tolerant and open-minded people. The trust the state places in its people is implicit in the lack of censorship. It is a hallmark of a tolerant society. People will decide for themselves - don't worry about it. And what do we have in the U.K? A very restrictive media. A nanny state. And an emotionally repressed, anally retentive society that lets its hair down by blowing its cash and its brains out on alcohol.

I love you U.K. But sometimes you're just no fun....

  1. Interesting thought, bu, after five years in the God-damn place, I disagree. I believe there are huge problems in the Swedish State control mechanisms. Swedes are generally irresponsible people. They are never allowed to take responsibility; from cradle to grave their lives are controlled, numbers for everything, systemet/no booze sales, etc., etc. The list is endless. Sweden is an insidious state that should be kicked out of the EU. It is obsessed with its international image - little else!
