In the supermarket here they have little trolleys for kids. I believe the flag (see above) makes the pint-sized shoppers clearly visible to adults: thereby preventing collisions!
It seems a fun way to get children involved. The little blighters stuff their mini-trolleys full of dessert and play 'bumper-cars'!
