Adorable isn't he? Rolf is a children's 'first-reading' character who was originally Danish and called Otto. Perhaps he's on the run and changed his identity?
Talking of being on the run, there is in fact a book called Rolf har en Pistol ("Rolf has a Pistol"). Disturbed by the mental image of little Rolf shooting the head off a newborn baby, I tentatively opened the book to see if my fears were justified. Luckily, the writers meant a water pistol. Ho ho! A ploy to worry overprotective parents? The original writers must have had a wicked sense of humour...
